Here, learning goes far beyond the classroom: At Vestjyllands Højskole, you become part of a lively community with open skies and space to explore life. Curiosity, wonder, and reflection are at the center, and you’ll have time to focus on your interests, broaden your horizons, and build friendships and connections. Far out in the countryside, away from the city’s hustle, life here is full of energy and opportunities, while the community gives you a safe space to try new ideas and let them grow.

What is a danish folk high school?
A folk high school is a non-formal, residential school where you can explore a wide range of subjects. Most students are between 18 and 30 years old, and a typical stay lasts 4 to 6 months. As a boarding school, you live, eat, study, and spend your free time on campus. There are no academic requirements for admission and no exams, but you will receive a diploma as proof of your participation.

Our green profile
At Vestjyllands Højskole, sustainability is a living part of everyday life. Our meals are 90–100% organic, and we grow many of our vegetables in the school garden. We produce our own CO₂-neutral energy and integrate eco-friendly practices across all areas of school life.
As a leading ecological and sustainable folk high school, we have proudly held the Green Flag since 2009, are Fairtrade certified, and have received the Rav-Aage Prize from Thise Mejeri, Denmark’s main organic dairy. Students are encouraged to take part in discussions about responsible living and to engage with sustainability in both theory and practice.
We also participate in Nordic and international projects, mentor other schools, and collaborate with green associations, making sustainability a core part of our learning community.

Subjects
With around 20 subjects to choose from, you create your own schedule to match your interests. As a general folk high school, we offer a wide range of subjects in crafts, art, agriculture, outdoor life, body, music, and dance.
Whatever you choose, there is plenty of room for focus and creativity.
Spare time
In your spare time, we create together the activities that make folk high school life special. Spontaneous ideas quickly turn into movie nights, sauna trips, runs, yoga, singing evenings, board games, parties, dance workshops, and much more. You can also choose to focus quietly on your own or with others in our creative workshops, explore the beautiful and wild gardens, or discover the scenic local surroundings.
Facilities
The school’s facilities are open around the clock. Here you’ll find, among other things, the climbing wall, the gym, the library, the music room, the round house, and the dance hall – and of course the workshops for textiles, ceramics, wood, and art. Immerse yourself in whatever you feel like, both on your own and together with your folk high school friends.
